In today's edition: Meatloaf
"Hey mom, are you ready for dinner?"
"Yes ilia, I'm hungry."
"I just pulled it out of the oven. It's resting. It'll be good in five minutes."
"What's resting? What did you make?"
"I made meatloaf and potatoes."
"MEATLOAF?!?"
"Yeah mom, meatloaf."
"Come on ilia. What are you making?"
"Mom ... It's meatloaf and potatoes."
"I don't want your exotic food, ilia. I just want some normal food."

Editor's note:
The series "Shit my mother says" has come to be for I have taken on the role of my mom's caregiver. She's eighty-four years old, has recently been diagnosed with leukemia, and lost her husband of fifty plus years this past spring. Prior to his funeral, I hadn't seen her in twenty-one years. "Duty (or Decency) in the time of Coronavirus". I'll explain more later.
