In today's edition: Corn
"ilia, We need a grill."
"Mom, I couldn't agree more. I can't wait to have charred corn."
"ilia ... that is the one thing I've been craving for three years."
Today I went to get a grill, charcoal, ribeye steaks, asparagus, and corn."
I grilled the asparagus and two corn cobs and brought 'em inside before I grilled the steaks. I asked my mom to look at the corn to make sure they were grilled properly (as she's quite particular).
While the steaks were grilling, I came inside to set dinner only to find my mom polishing off a cob whilst standing in the kitchen.
"How's the corn?"
"ilia ... it's excellent."
She ate another cob with dinner and enjoyed the steak and asparagus as well ... a reprise was had the following night.
Happy Memorial Day everybody! much love and kisses and miss y'all!
Editor's note: The series "Shit my mother says" has come to be for I have taken on the role of my mom's caregiver. She's eighty-four years old, has recently been diagnosed with leukemia, and has lost her husband of fifty plus years this past spring. Prior to his funeral, I hadn't seen her in twenty-one years. "Duty (or Decency) in the time of Coronavirus".
