Exposé Part V, The Shut-Out: Electoral College Trumps Democracy, Inequality Prevails

"This is incredible! So much better than we thought, I better get down there." Jared Kushner stated as he eloquently dashed out of the private meeting room atop 666 Fifth Avenue. "The electoral college has saved the day. ... told ya it would work," Charles Kushner gloated. "No way the south and west was gonna vote for 'that bitch' (Hillary Clinton). No matter how many votes she gets in New York or California, she's gonna lose this puppy."

The senior Kushner was referring to the Electoral College that's still in place in the United States even after it's faults were addressed by post Civil War issues, some of which still linger today.

In a direct election system, the "Urban Hoity-toity-liberal-educated-atheistic-do-gooders" metropolitan areas, where 80.7% of the population lives, would outnumber the "Rural education-be-damned-god-fearing-backwater-local-yokel" country areas (19.3%), whose many slaves (37 million in all, albeit with a two-fifths discount--that number has since dropped to a one-fifths discount due to athletes and musical performers), would be computed into its share of the overall count.

A popular vote would skew the system to a more racially equitable outcome. The Electoral College, in all it's Godly wisdom, instead let each rural state count its slaves as unsung voices (however delightful they are) to greatly enhance their numbers. Therefore, each smaller state, regardless of population would be able to carry a much louder voice in the electorate than the masses accounted for. For example; Mr. Trump won Mississippi by 215,583 votes and won 6 electoral seats, Mrs. Clinton lost Georgia by 211,141 votes and lost all 16 electoral seats. In Pennsylvania Mr. Trump won by 44,292 votes and won the 20 electoral seats. Mrs. Clinton did enjoy a popular vote win nationally with over 2.8 million more votes or a 2.1% advantage over Mr. Trump but it really made no difference whatsoever to the election outcome...

Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist 68, It is “desirable, that the sense of the people should operate in the choice of” president. The electors, Hamilton believed, would prevent someone with “talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity” from becoming president (the framers were particularly afraid of the people choosing a demagogue). And they would combat “the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils. The office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications.”
